The Classy Kit smoky quartz earrings are made from a translucent gray variety of quartz. It can vary in transparency from almost being entirely see-through to appearing as a nearly opaque crystal with a brownish-gray coloration.
Occasionally, specimens may even appear black (like those that we’ve used for our Smoky Quartz Hoop Earrings and Smoky Quartz Long Dangle Earrings). The crystal’s transparency is the result of natural irradiation that affects tiny amounts of aluminum present in its structure.
Smoky quartz has deep-rooted origins and diverse meanings across many cultures. For instance, did you know that smoky quartz is the national gemstone of Scotland (the type that can be found there is called Cairngorm)? Unsurprisingly, it plays a crucial role in Celtic mythology and legends. The Druids, who were wise priests, teachers, judges, and prophets belonging to higher social ranks, held smoky quartz in high regard.
According to Scottish lore, the Druids forged connections with higher powers from both the natural and spiritual realms. Smoky quartz, however, is not only revered in Scottish folklore. It is also associated with Hecate, the Greek goddess of magic in mythology, and represents the obscure powers of Earth gods and goddesses.
Smoky quartz holds significant importance across various cultures and societies, ancient and modern. Currently, Australia, Brazil, the United States, and Madagascar are the primary sources of this crystal.
